Class Syllabus 2021 - 2022
Classroom Rules, Procedures, Expectations
Coral Academy uses the CHAMPS system of classroom management:
Conversation (voice level),
Help (when/how to ask a question)
Activity (assignment or “Listen and take notes”)
Movement (permitted or restricted)
Participation (small group, individual, or class)
Success!
Specific direction for each of these categories is verbally announced, posted (with picture), and changed as needed during the course of the class. An explanation is given as to why movement or conversation may be restricted. (For example, a voice level of “0,” no talking, is necessary during whole class instruction and testing.) If students are in doubt as to what is expected, they can refer to the chart to the left side of the white board for clarification. Students may always raise their hand at any time during the class period for help.
*At no time is excessively loud talking (yelling, shouting, or screaming) running, or fighting permitted in the classrooms or hallways.
Consequences & Rewards
As a grade level team, we teachers realize our students are working hard to acquire and maintain the best work habits and behavior. We also know that the parents need a full picture of what is happening in class to help in guiding the student.
Consequences
For misbehaviors in and outside of class, students will be given 2 verbal prompts. If the behavior continues, students will receive Lunch Reflection in a designated classroom. Students will be required to fill in a half page Lunch Reflection Sheet, and an email outlining the inappropriate behavior will be sent home. This reflection time is given to help our students reflect on their choices, and to inform parents of repeated unacceptable behavior. Parents may use the form as a discussion tool at home. Feel free to email with any additional questions and concerns. After the third reflection, teachers will request a parent-teacher conference.
Rewards
Students receiving fewer than three lunch reflections will freely participate in a monthly “party.” This will be a celebration of the class birthdays for the month as well as a celebration of good behavior.
*Excessive inappropriate behavior (yelling, fighting, or running) may result in an automatic lunch reflection.

Half credit will be given for:
test corrections only when written out in full sentence form on a separate sheet of paper and stapled to the original test.
Missed Work due to absence:
should be turned in as soon as possible after the student returns to class. Please get work for planned absences in advance, if possible.
*Late work will be accepted up until the day before report cards are printed; however, excessively late work may result in a lack of time to check and enter the new grade. As a result, the student may receive only partial credit, or no credit at all. Late work will be graded on a strict percentage basis. Late and corrected work will be processed in the order received. The last week before report cards, priority will be given to students with D and F averages.
Volunteer Policy/Information
I welcome visitors and parent volunteers at anytime, but please observe the school’s security clearance when working with children or chaperoning field trips (fingerprinting), and sign-in policy when visiting.
